# Source Review ## Currently used by Lux Lux currently uses: - `lux/data/seed/lux_seed_library.json` in the `lux` repo. - Synthetic libraries generated inside `lux.experiments`. No measured external mineral database is currently ingested into the Lux matching pipeline. ## First measured source Use USGS Spectral Library Version 7 first. It has the best combination of scientific quality, broad mineral/material coverage, stable citation, public domain status, and online text exports. ## Sources that need care - ECOSTRESS/JPL: public download, unclear redistribution for Lux because of the visible Caltech all-rights-reserved notice. - RELAB: useful but noncommercial restriction conflicts with a commercial Luxnode default bundle. - RRUFF: scientifically excellent for Raman/IR/XRD minerals; request permission or locate explicit redistribution terms before mirroring. - NIST ASD: use live query/cached user-side adapter for element lines, not a mirrored dataset.
